MÁLAGA
(2025)
I NEEDED A BREAK SO I TRAVELLED TO MY FAVOURITE EUROPEAN COUNTRY,
BUT THIS TIME TO A CITY I HAVE NOT BEEN TO BEFORE.
SCROLL DOWN FOR A POEM INSPIRED BY MY TRIP.
REASONS TO LIVE
The mountain ahead of me is far
but I don’t see it as unreachable,
that’s all the justification I need to chase my dreams,
for what lies inside of me must be closer than that mountain,
guide me to the water
where I can see you
you blue me away
I fear I have found another reason to live
there aren’t many of those,
they dissolve -
- hungrily grab another one, scrape your fingers desperately through the gravelled sand
Let me enjoy my last few days of sun
that’s what I came here for,
but you gave me rain, that’s very unlike you
You remind me of home,
without the palms
and most times, at home,
I think about you
I’m torn between where I am and where I am
I -
am without home, without love, with much loss
These castles are not built for my survival
I will find myself rolling down the slope with my enemies
This armour it’s heavy
I -
I am suffocating
Tilt my face towards the cracks in the ground where the water is flowing
Hydrate me
Speak with your body not with your mouth
I close my eyes and hold my position
the beads of sweat glimmering in the pale blue light
I see red
I rise into form, poised, my head held tall
I won’t stop until I kill that beast
As I dance around my mountain
I dissolve like my reasons to live,
into paradise,
where have you been?
everywhere
well you left the best until last.
